Working in the fields

The majority of Afghans live in rural areas and are peasants. Therefore, they rely heavily on their crops, which is both the source of their daily food and income. Because Afghans are so dependent on their crops, their personal finances are incredibly sensitive. A bad harvest can have fatal consequences for their lives. It is not unusual that there is famine in parts of Afghanistan, when the harvest fails. At the same time the Afghan regime is unable to make proper export contracts, so the Afghan farmers can sell their products outside the Afghan market.
